An extraordinary place led by Japan's traditional respect for nature and the mastery of ecological planting design by British garden designer Dan Pearson, who captured the essence of the place, giving meaning to this new concept of naturalistic gardening, creating a garden in perfect harmony with nature.

Tokachi Millennium Forest is a pioneering project in the way gardens are designed and cultivated in nature itself. Twenty years ago, Dan Pearson was invited to create a garden in this 240-hectare forest located in Hokkaido, the northernmost island of the Japanese archipelago, roughly the size of Ireland.
The original master plan was developed by Takano Landscape Planning, and in 2000, they enlisted the collaboration of British garden designer Dan Pearson. His knowledge of plant ecology, coupled with his appreciation for natural landscapes, inspires his garden designs. The intention was for Dan Pearson to help design an ecological public park on the site, one that would encourage town and city dwellers to reconnect with nature by creating a series of spaces that would give the landscape a public focus.
The project was intended to become a sustainable garden for the next thousand years, and that is why Mitsugishe Hyashi decided to name the place Tokachi Millennium Forest.
