Jacques Majorelle

In 1919, the French painter Jacques Majorelle (1886-1962), son of the famous cabinet-maker and Art Nouveau designer, Louis Majorelle de Nancy, settled in the medina of Marrakech (at that time a French protectorate) falling in love with its lights, colors, smells, noises, architecture, inhabitants, of the souk, of the kasbah.

In love with botany, he creates his garden around his house/workshop, with lush vegetation where countless species of birds nest.

This garden is a living work of art in movement, composed of exotic plants and rare species brought from their travels around the world: cacti, yuccas, water lilies, nympheas, jasmines, bougainvilleas, palm trees, coconut trees, banana trees, bamboo, etc. adorned with fountains, basins, water jets, ceramic jugs, avenues and pergolas.
