Alphonse Mucha, Prague 1860 – 1939, was a painter and decorative artist widely recognized as one of the greatest exponents of Art Nouveau.
He created a distinct approach, characterized by harmonious compositions, sinuous forms, organic lines, and muted colors, becoming synonymous with the Art Nouveau decorative style. He demonstrated his skill with mythological themes, female figures, and exuberant plant decoration.
Mucha produced a large number of paintings, posters, illustrations, jewelry designs, carpets, and theatrical sets.
He frequently introduced into his work young, beautiful, and healthy women, floating in neoclassical attire surrounded by flowers with which he formed halos behind their heads.
His rise to fame came with his first lithographic poster created for the French actress Sarah Bernhardt, exhibited at the Renaissance Theatre.
